The geography of Camagüey is rich in historical sites, whose significance makes them true places of veneration. One of the most significant ones is located in Las Clavellinas, where on November 4th, 1868, 76 people from Camagüey took up arms as proof that Camagüey joined the independence insurrection initiated by Carlos Manuel de Céspedes on October 10th of the same year.

As a way to mark such a significant space for history, the Territorial Council of Veterans paid tribute through an obelisk that was inaugurated on November 4th, 1937.

It is composed of a square section pillar with several stepped bodies of different dimensions, containing on its faces sculpted marble plates with the names of the 76 patriots who spoke in that place.

Due to the historical values and the political significance that the historical site Las Clavellinas Uprising treasures, it was declared a National Monument on October 10th, 1978.
