Activities program to the rhythm of Son

Because the Cuban Son is part of our heritage and Camagüey is the cradle of important soneros, the Office of the Historian of the city; has prepared a program of activities for the Day of the Cuban Son, to be celebrated on May 8th.

Dedicated to the trajectory of Nené and Adalberto Álvarez and their imprint on the Son of Camagüey, from April 19th to May 8th there will be dialogue with Lic. Caridad González Edward, director of the José Marín Varona Concert Hall, about his personal view.

These sections will be in the programming of the national radio station Habana Radio, the provincial radio station Radio Cadena Agramonte, the municipal radio Camagüey and will be heard in the main arteries of the city of Camagüey, where the speakers of the Radio Principe project of the Historian’s Office are located.

To enjoy this exchange on the Radio Príncipe frequency, you can do so immediately after the MINSAP Press Conference, which is broadcast live at 9:00 am. The topics addressed in these sections will be: Son and the main exponents in Camagüey and the country. Personalities such as Guillermo Lombida, Pablo Varona, Reinaldo Polovit, Eliseo Saavedra, Jorge Luaces, Diógenes Montes de Oca, Manolito Simonet, Candita Batista, Orlando Beltrán and others will be mentioned for their imprint and work.

For the 7th, the space is reserved to discuss Nené and Adalberto Álvarez and their contributions to Son in Camagüey.

While the programs Camino a Camagüey on Sundays May 2nd and 9th will be dedicated to Son and Camagüey, in addition to the soneros and groups of the city. Musicians and musicologists from the city will be interviewed. These programs will air on the Habana Radio station of the Office of the Historian of Havana, from 5 to 6pm.

Other moments of this programming will have an audiovisual material for May 7th, which will be broadcast on national television and the provincial TV station; and on May 8th at 9am a tribute will be held in the General Cemetery of Camagüey in front of the place where Nené Álvarez rests. This activity will be broadcast online by the institutional Facebook profile of the Office of the Historian of Camagüey.

After paying tribute to Nené Álvarez in the Camagüey necropolis, in the courtyard of the Office of the Historian, the second part of the tribute will take place at 10 am with a concert by Soneros de Camacho also with an online transmission, through the institutional Facebook profile of the Office of the Historian and transmitted after coordination with various profiles of the city and the country.

Minutes before the concert, the words of el caballero Son Adalberto Álvarez will be broadcast and it will be hosted by Yuri del Río.
