Breastfeeding is a core issue in any society as the first necessity of infants. Carlos J. Finlay was also interested in the health of newborns when he stated his work on infantile tetanus in 1886 where he recommended the use of disinfected scissors and cords for the ligation of the umbilical cord and the application of antiseptic dressings until the complete healing of the belly button.

The Birthplace of the aforementioned scientist promotes the practice of breastfeeding expressed through the photographic exhibition that we present today, donated by Dr. Ivette Prince Martínez, who in turn made the institution the headquarters of the Maternal and Child Care Program (PAMI, by its acronym in Spanish) of the province.

Clear evidences of the love, tenderness and delicacy that exist in this act of affective communication where mother and son strengthen their ties from the moment of being conceived; they are expressed in this exhibition.

Our country is a palpable example where not only the mother is responsible for breastfeeding the baby; it is a teamwork where the couple, the family and society in general prepare and train for this moment.

Let us contribute to the call made by the World Health Organization (WHO): “Let’s empower ourselves, let’s make breastfeeding possible”
