Years can pass and that vibe of feeling at home does not disappear. And then, although the buildings change the façade and the faces are different; you recognize each space of the University of Camagüey Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz (UC) and memories arrive that, rarely, are left out of the most significant personal moments.
This should happen to those who had the opportunity to start a career in Agronomy on November 6th, 1967, or who later, seven days later, joined the course of the basic secondary level teacher career that settled temporarily at the Railway Institute “Cándido González”.
And it is that the third to last month of the year is closely linked to the beginnings of the institution, if it is taken as a reference that it is the Ignacio Agramonte University, the first higher education center founded in Cuba after the revolutionary triumph. However, long before it was visible from the pages of El Camagüeyano newspaper.

The following year, there was also a study option: Pedagogy, Medicine, Mechanics, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Chemical Engineering, the first two began with students of higher years of the University of Havana, Las Villas and Oriente; Medicine at the Manuel Ascunce Domenech Hospital, and Mechanics in Nuevitas.
University of Camagüey, closer in history
In April 1974, the University moved to a new building in the Northern Beltway where the basic departments of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology were created, due to the high number of professors that the disciplines had.
With the presence of the Pedagogical Institute and the other educational profiles, it was necessary to include Physical Culture and sport in the study plan as part of professional training. Thus arises, the provincial branch of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation.
Currently, the University of Camagüey, an institution certified by the National Accreditation Board, has three headquarters, in which the innovative and scientific character stands out. From their classrooms, community work is strengthened, under the concept of helping the economic and social development of the territory based on the knowledge acquired in the higher education center.
It also highlights, even for the enjoyment of citizens, the extensive work of the house of higher studies visible through manifestations such as dance, music, plastic arts, theater, literature, speech and audiovisuals. The positive results of the Vocación Musical Group and the Maraguán Artistic Ensemble stand out, a benchmark for university art in the country.
The University of Camagüey Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz is the place where in November a necessary section in history is made; the place that always welcomes your children and although the years go by, that vibe of feeling at home does not disappear.
