The Office of the Historian of Camagüey city, fulfilling the old commission, intervened in the house in which the illustrious Enrique José Varona was born.

The scope of work in the property included the placement of roofs in the first midship gangway, while in the second it was laid out.  It included the facade, room and parlor restoration; besides of the opening of vanes of the main access door with the placement of frames bringing it to its original state.

The facade was also painted respecting the architectural elements it bears, representative of the Art Nouveau style.

This home is within the degree of protection 1 for its artistic, social and historical values.  Between its walls came the world, on April 13, 1849, the intellectual, pedagogue, philosopher and ideologist of the Cuban emancipation movement of the 1930s, Enrique José Varona de la Pera.

Although are the owners themselves who must manage the constructive improvements of their home responding to the country’s policies; this rehabilitation was an old order for the Office of the Historian of the city, by orders of the own population; fair claim for the value it holds for the history of the province.
