Camagüey’s culture week always brings us a space long awaited by all since 2014, a meeting with local and foreign handicrafts, which inject a breath of joy to those who like handicrafts.
The pandemic in the previous two years deprived us of the week of celebrations for the anniversary of the birth of our town, this year it finally returned in person and brings with it the Camagüey 500 + Crafts Fair, in its eighth edition, which since February 2nd opened its doors at the fairground.
The fair
About 30 exhibitors with various manifestations attract a constant coming and going of the public of all ages, although those for footwear, decorative and utilitarian accessories, both for home and personal use, are the most popular.
Two novelties stand out in the current edition: one corresponds to the handmade soaps from Las Tunas under the name of Natural Cosmetics, which offers products made with organic essences. The other attractive project is Revolotear, aimed at the little ones at home with funny wooden toys, with striking shapes and various purposes.
The initiative corresponds to the Camagüey branch of the Cuban Funding for Cultural Assets, therefore the presence of local artisans is a must with fabulous creations in textiles, footwear, handicrafts and ornamental plants, as well as some small pastry businesses.
What do the attendees think of the Fair?
As I went through the different stalls and looked for some crafts to feed the spirit, I heard the opinions of some people, who, although they are happy to attend the fair and be able to appreciate all the creations, feel that not everyone can buy, because the prices are still high; the most economical footwear and designs and therefore demanded, are sold out to fast.
The invitation will remain open until February 14th, lovers will have the opportunity to acquire pieces of art with great utility value that allow them to take home a gift not only for everyday life, but also to brighten the soul.
