As of this February 21, the Office of the Historian of the city of Camagüey has an extensive schedule of activities.
And it is that from that date and until the 23rd the fifteenth edition of the Symposium Challenges in the Management and Administration of Cities will be held, which will be attended by directors and specialists from the Offices of the Historian and the Conservator of several Cuban cities; network of institutions that will hold one of their ordinary work sessions. The event will also feature the participation of Jordi Teserrás Juan, president in Spain of the International Council on Monuments and Sites, who will offer a Keynote Lecture related to Creative Industries.
On February 23rd, during the second day of sessions, the Fulgencio Arambula Alarife Público Award ceremony will be held, which is awarded to people and institutions that in the areas of architecture and urban planning contribute in an outstanding way to the safeguarding and protection of the Historic Center of Camaguey city.
In unison with the Symposium, the First Heritage Cities Communication Workshop will be held, a space conducive to discus and share experiences, progress, challenges and opportunities in terms of communication for the proper dissemination, protection and enhancement of heritage. In addition, it will be an important step in the process of developing a communication strategy for the entire Network of heritage cities.
On the 24th, the first quarter of a century of the creation of the Office of the Historian of the city of Camagüey is commemorated and for that day there are a series of activities to celebrate the date.
For example, at nine o’clock in the morning, the traditional ceremony will be held in the Agramonte Park that evokes three important anniversaries, the restart of the struggle for independence, the 110th anniversary of the unveiling of the equestrian statue of Ignacio Agramonte that presides over this space and the 25th anniversary of the Historian’s Office.
This day will also be inaugurated the Interpretation Center of the Cemetery, the facilities of the building will use new technologies and the Railway Museum, projects belonging to the Office of the Historian of Camagüey city.
The Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Antonio Guerrero will present his book “There will never be loneliness for you” and the day will close with a gala for the 25th anniversary of the institution in which a documentary will be presented that collects the testimony of some protagonists of the actions carried out by the Office of the Historian of Camagüey city from its creation until today.
