Poetry is one of the purest forms that the human being found to express the affairs of the soul. Just like music, plastic arts and literature in general, poetry represents the emotions that spring from within to reflect the endearing reality.
The city boasts to be the cradle of literature in Cuba, defending the legacy of the first literary and poetic work written in the country: Espejo de Paciencia, by the Spanish scribe Silvestre de Balboa.
From our region flourished poets capable of achieving an intangible heritage in the province. Feelings of love for the plain and the characteristics that define the people of Camagüey are reflected in the works of these artists.
Ocher in color I imagine our verses, those that were written over time, those that Avellaneda wrote from longing for her homeland. Those of Guillén, the son poet who was inspired by the Creole, the clay and the waterpot to achieve the harmony that Cuban culture means.
In love with poetry
Aurelia Castillo, was another of the daughters of Camagüey who enhanced the province with her lyrics, she always reflected on love, women’s rights, patriotism, exile. She always remembered her little town and like Gertrude, she was a thinker ahead of her time.
The generations that emerge from the novelty continue betting on this manifestation, because today the poems of audacious artists in love with the sunset and the city are breathed in our ancient streets.
