As I have already mentioned on other occasions, my visits to different institutions, historical and patrimonial places, are frequent, since I do it with my second year students of the English Language career at the University of Camagüey Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz, with the purpose of that they know the true culture of our city and also helps them in their future work life and their own cultural heritage.
For this reason, a few days ago, the tour was carried out in an overwhelming site that impress many just by naming it, the General Cemetery, that open-air museum that keeps so much history, funerary art, legends and of which so many stories are told. With our visit we were able to deepen and even clarify some unknowns that we had.
Knowledge that catches
It is worth highlighting the preparation of the specialists who, belonging to the Office of the Historian, work there, and the dedication and love with which they work, sometimes without the due understanding of both the population and institutions and organizations, which do not value integrity and altruism that must be had to spend eight hours there, and on more occasions when necessary, under difficult conditions, because just by mentioning the intensely hot weather that plagues them, we realize their total passion for what they do.
The change in the appearance of the place is obvious just by crossing a few meters from the entrance, and the detailed explanations lead the visitor through the different paths designed so that we all feel, among other things, obliged to care for and protect the heritage, something that will always be a maxim of this institution that today leads this project created twenty-five years ago for the good of our city.
The summer tours of this venue have been a complete success, and that makes me very happy, because in addition to the fact that our people already look at it with a different prism, it educates them by visualizing their true values, it also makes everyone who goes there, feel more respected in the efforts you seek, and it also makes that work much more humane.
My respect and admiration once again for those dedicated and kind technicians that I find there whenever I go, and the wish that their achievements will be greater in the future.
