A meeting to share and discuss the different gender approaches in today’s society and symbolic violence in the media, was the reason for a workshop where specialists from the Communication Group of the Office of the Historian of Camagüey City participated on September 6th and 8th; within the framework of an international cooperation project.
In search of a balance for the inclusive and harmonious coexistence of all human beings, examples were shared on the forms of violence, social inequalities and abuses that people can be victims of; as well as the rights of each person to live with the sexual orientation they choose and to be respected for their decision.
The coordinator of the workshop, Laritza González Achón, with more than 20 years of work, after listening to the expectations and criteria of the participants, and sharing experiences, insisted that the dissemination of stereotypes can be avoided from the Media, to reach that inclusive, fair and necessary society in which everyone counts and which is advocated.
The meeting was part of the actions of the Arte Plaza Project, which is committed to the model of cultural and creative industries, and should represent a contribution to heritage management and local socioeconomic development, from the revitalization of the main public spaces of the historic center of Camaguey. It is financed by the European Union and the Portuguese Institute Camoes, and executed by the Historian’s Office itself and the non-governmental organizations Care France and Oikos.
