The historical site that commemorates the feat of the assault on the prison car of the Batista Police, received the new generation this morning, on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of that audacious action, in which revolutionaries of the July 26th Movement in Camagüey rescued their comrades from a fatal fate.
The meeting around the black car, evidence of the confrontation led by Noel Fernández, brought together students, mass organizations and several comrades from the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution, to carry out a simple reminder of that feat; fact that changed the destiny of the young people who traveled there, with the aim of being indicted by the prevailing regime.
The ceremony
From very early, the lady in charge of the place, had polished the windows, the car and the folding shutters, leaving such a real proof in view of all; which speaks of the courage of a few Camagüeyans, who shook the city that morning in 1958.
In front of the site, the national anthem was sung loudly and the only participant in the feat, who at 85 years of age can still attest to it, narrated the events to the students present there. Roberto Coello Huerta, gave details of the assault on the vehicle that was carrying the revolutionaries: Pedro Léster Delgado, Alfredo Sarduy and Badito Saker; while he commented on the reason for our eternal gratitude and respect.
Once the tribute was over, like every September 16tj, Coello returned to the side of the car, there, with his characteristic simplicity, he put a hand on the black metal; a gesture that can be translated as eternal gratitude to his companions in that fight, which sprouts in the good deeds of each day.
