The University of Camagüey in its 55th anniversary

With 53 majors, more than 110 thousand graduates and 14 lines of research, the University of Camagüey Ignacio Agramonte y Loynaz (UC) leads eight innovation programs, in correspondence with the pillars of government management in the country. At an international level, a master’s degree and two doctorates are accredited by the Ibero-American Postgraduate University Association, a result that guarantees the prestige of the house of higher studies abroad.

In addition, UC has received 40 national student awards, eight Carlos J. Finlay orders, and 19 distinctions from the Ministry of Higher Education. In this sense, it strengthens international ties with other academic institutions such as the Hebei University of International Studies (China), the Huancavelica University (Peru), the Northern Arizona University (United States), the University of Antwerp (Belgium), and the GLA Mathura University (India).

The University of Camagüey has three branches in the city of Camagüey and 12 municipal university centers, one in each demarcation of the province (except the municipality of Camagüey).

The three venues located in the provincial capital are “Ignacio Agramonte”, “Manuel Fajardo” and “José Martí”; each of which has student residences, including those for foreign students. In the case of the last two, there are also residences for postgraduate students.

Consolidation of its contributions

The center has 11 specializations of Excellence, and of the 26 academic improvement courses evaluated, 13 hold the highest category. 30% of the teaching staff corresponds to Doctors of Science in certain areas of knowledge, and 47.5% have the category of Tenured or Assistant Professor.

The University of Camagüey also exhibits seven national prizes awarded by the Cuban Academy of Sciences, 62 provincial awards conferred by the Delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment and 14 international awards.

Scientific Publications

Nowadays, the UC has eight scientific journals, most of them accredited in the National Registry of Serial Publications:

– Journal of Animal Production: Founded in 1985 by the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. It has a printed and a digital version.

– Management Challenges: Founded in 2007, by the Faculty of Economic and Legal Sciences. It has a printed and a digital version.

– Transformation: Edited by the Department of Scientific – Pedagogical Information of the Directorate of Scientific Information Management.

– Agrisost: Founded in 1995 at the then José Martí Higher Pedagogical Institute. It belongs to the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and publishes content related to sustainable agriculture and its teaching.

– Monteverdia: Dedicated to environmental studies.

– Arcada: Electronic magazine edited by the Faculty of Construction.

– Science and sport: Magazine of the Faculty of Physical Culture.

Through Ediciones Universidad de Camagüey, a publishing house of the UC, the academics of the house of higher studies can publish their scientific production, in a digital or printed format.

UC also has the REDIUC Institutional Digital Repository that allows downloading books and postgraduate theses.

Doctorates

The rector Dr.C. Santiago Lajes Choy pointed out the graduation of 15 new doctors in science, with which there are already more than 300 who have reached that scientific category in the institution.

As part of the celebration for the more than five decades that the university of Camagüey celebrates this November 6th, a solemn cloister was held with the exhibition of its scientific achievements; as well as the delivery of the 55th Anniversary commemorative plaque -to more than 200 prestigious academics- and the Centenary condition of the University Student Federation.

The University of Camagüey Ignacio Agramonte y Loynaz expects to graduate more than 2,200 new professionals in various branches of knowledge by the end of this year, which will accumulate a figure of more than 110,000 graduates for Cuba and several countries of the world.

Currently, the house of higher studies in Camagüey holds the category of Certified granted by the National Accreditation Board.
