The city celebrates its 509 years. A week full of traditions and cultural beauty cannot begin in any other way than with the usual solemn session of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power, which every February 2nd reviews the achievements and heritage values, and invites the addition of new actions that contribute to the care and conservation of our city.
After the National Anthem, which resounded in the San Juan de Dios Square and was sung out loud by the Provincial Choir -accompanied by the Concert Band- the session was opened; in which José Rodríguez Barreras, director of the Office of the Historian (OHCC) intervened to ponder the work of the institution in favor of the city and its inhabitants.
The first words of the director of the OHCC were of gratitude to the District Delegates, who, representing the town, have worked for the city for 25 years as essential managers in the construction of local history and national identity. Your contribution, like that of so many people who love this land, contributed to the privilege of being part of the World Heritage list.
Thus, Rodríguez Barreras urged us to follow the only possible path: that of defending the place where we live, which today more than ever needs everyone, to protect the jewel that is our Historic Center. Doing so is also defending the Homeland from its essence.
Before concluding, the official delivery to the Municipal Assembly of Popular Power in Camagüey was made, of a book with the Chronicles of the City of the year 2022, which includes the daily life of the Camagüeyan, life stories, values of a site or building and, above all, we reflect the feeling of this region -where Nicolás Guillén, after much walking, came with his memories, with his wounds and his verses.
