Beautiful memories, cool as water from a waterpot, are kept in the memory of those of us who had the happiness of seeing the birth of the radio station of Camagüey on February 2nd, 2004.
A varied list of programs with care for every detail, it soon added followers and began to interact with its listeners. From the most unsuspected sites came the reports, compliments and suggestions, always taken into account to inform and accompany a public with diverse interests.
Its origins
Radio Camagüey had a glorious past, the involvement of its predecessor, the former Suarito-Radio Camagüey, in the call for a strike on April 9th, 1958, pride for that generation of radio operators and still is, for the current ones, who try to honor it from every day.
But that daring action by young people from the July 26th movement led to the closure of the station, which had a new awakening in the 1970s, on that occasion as an instrumental music station.
The third and current Radio Camagüey integrated into its programming design a bit of the previous two, since from the first it took the national sense and the taste for good music of all time.
The second Radio Camagüey was honored with the program Acompáñame, already absent from the menu, in which the instrumental music of the world was reviewed.
The current one made the difference and soon it was felt with its first program Entre Tinajones, a variety show, that each awakening brought key information to the public, music from the patio, as well as tribute to personalities of Camagüey, proof of the importance of that mean of communication; to accompany the audience in all moments of life.
17 years later…
At the turn of 17 years, I can say with certainty that the radio has been a school for journalists, program directors and broadcasters who, during their time in Radio Camagüey, have been nourished with essential knowledge to understand and love this mean of communication, which managed to trap us with its magic forever.
Of those who started in the era of tape recorders and typewriters, we only stayed on our feet, getting scared of new technologies: Lizandra, Lucrecia, Niaska and this humble chronicler. But having seen the station born and still being able to pay tribute to the safeguarding of its original values is a pleasure.
The new generations of workers of the union, set the current pace and join this feeling of honoring those who started, with creative ideas that make the radio interesting and add followers, without losing the essence that defines us … cool as water from a waterpot.
Good wishes
Congratulations to all my colleagues from Radio Camagüey, who this February 2nd, celebrate a new dawn between sounds and lights, next to the birthday of the city!
With all the affection that goes into each broadcast, we honor the celebration of this day, of which we are part and although today a pandemic keeps us distant, together with the complicity of our listeners, we will enter their homes with our magic and united in one heart we will toast to the future.
