To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the support of the entire society is required, which is why 34 workers from the Office of the Historian of Camagüey city, since January 18th, support the investigation and control of the epidemic in three doctor’s offices belonging to the district number 7 of the San Juan de Dios Popular Council.

These men and women, together with med students and public health workers, have under their care a population of approximately 4 thousand people; almost 400 of them within vulnerable groups.

“We not only ask how people are doing, but through the method of observation we try to detect if someone has any respiratory symptom and if they are hiding it”; says Rosilda Viera Rodríguez, one of the workers of the Historian’s Office who is linked to this task.

The 34 workers are divided into 3 groups, each assigned to a doctor’s office and results have already been achieved that proves the effectiveness of the task.

For example, Diana Estela Marrero Cabote, doctor at the office number 29 of the Previsora Polyclinic, explains that through the investigations 7 positive cases of the disease have been detected and that in this detection work the Office workers have been a fundamental pillar.

The community is aware of the effort and dedication of this group. This is what Amalia Rubio Pérez, delegate of the district, lets me know when she tells me that “they have joined here as one more, as if they lived here, they not only investigated, but they had delivered either food or medicine, they served as psychological support to people who have had a family member tested positive to COVID-19. We are eternally grateful to the Office of the Historian for being here supporting its people. ”

Everyone is aware of the risk involved in this work so they do not neglect hygienic sanitary measures to protect themselves from COVID-19, however, the commitment to their institution and society encourages them to continue fighting against the virus until we are all out of danger.
