For more than a year we have been facing a different lifestyle, living with a dangerous disease; it even crosses the line, as we say here in Cuba. But despite this turbulent scenario in which the world and the country live, what we must not lose are values and decency.

In conversation with Néstor Joel Hernández Medina, Security and Protection Specialist, Head of the Control Group at the Historian’s Office; an issue that worries and occupies everyone’s mind was the protagonist of the conversation: the robberies in public spaces and monuments of the city.

Explains the specialist that since the end of last year and to date the Office of the Historian, has made around 5 complaints from the theft of LED lamps with an approximate cost of 2,000.00 pesos.

There are several spaces that are affected by these actions and today they cannot be replaced; these are: Revolution Square, Agramonte Park, Camilo Cienfuegos Fountain, Legends Park and the Aguada de Pineda Site; from the latter a bronze plaque was also stolen in commemoration of the place.

But these misdemeanors were not the only ones, the benches located in the Workers Square and the Legends Park have also been victims of these acts of vandalism.

According to Hernández, in the investigation process it has been found that within the causes of the crimes; there is a lack of responsibility on the part of the custodians who guard the place and the social indiscipline that go beyond the things they steal, because above all they threaten the possibility of enjoying a beautiful and well-cared city.

These are not times to destroy, steal, or mistreat what is built with so much effort; it is the precise moment to value the heritage that our city carries and for which we are all responsible.
