After months of silence, at the “Héroes del Moncada” school, excitement and joy filled the hallways again. On this occasion, vaccination in pediatric ages was the protagonist.

Yudelis Pérez Carlos, director of the institution, explained that after the Ismaelillo clinical trial in which the school participated; assuming vaccination represents a unique experience; because the educational centers had never been chosen as vaccination places.

“The clinical trial gave us the opportunity to learn about clinical vaccination in Camagüey, and also opening the doors to our children with the same doctors from the trial is an honor; Assuming that they are special and a little more complex than other children; and they bravely assumed the responsibility to help us and face the task. ”

The day was also conducive to provide services to the Antonio Suárez special school for deaf, blind and hard of hearing children and to the Ignacio Agramonte special school; together with the infants of the “Héroes del Moncada” institution that works in the care of children with autism spectrum disorder.

The gratitude to the school sponsors was immediate: “the Historian’s Office always accompanies us and this time it was no different; support with artistic talent was vital. The performance of Cebollita and Florecita made the children smile and feel in a more welcoming environment with their parents, after so much time of social isolation. ”

From the prism of the family

Fernandito and his mother Lizet lived an extraordinary experience, the boy felt confident and despite his diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder, he allowed the doctors to take his blood pressure, to vaccinate him and even spoke a few words with the doctors.

“Parents are very excited because receiving their first dose gives us peace of mind. The presence of Cebollita and Florecita also marked the difference, because he came convinced and without fear, because here would be their favorite clowns. ”

The message to parents who have not yet lived the experience was clear: “You can rest assured, the process is very nice and safe; and we all need to go through that phase in order to be happier.”

 Communication from health

Naglaidys and Aloima, education and health promotion specialists, shared the experience of vaccination with the children. Folding and precise orientations nuanced their interventions.

“It is in our interest to know the opinion that both parents and children have of the vaccine, why they come to be vaccinated and in a general way explain the importance of it to immunize all of us,” said Naglaidys.

Health is the most precious treasure of the human being and that is why complying with sanitary hygiene measures and making vaccination an event of hope in our daily lives, represents a step forward in this long fight against COVID-19.

While Aloima stated that “the happiness of the children is immense, they are ready to go to school. I see a lot of confidence in general. ”
