In a band, camaraderie, good friendship and brotherhood must prevail. There are professionals who treat music like a business, like any other job, the main thing to sustain a band is friendship, so you can enjoy yourself without feeling obligations, rehearsal is a moment of enjoyment to escape from everyday life.

This is how Humberto Delgado, the bassist of the Camagüey rock band Desbroce, defines his concept of unity, which he considers as the driving force for his group to advance in the world of Metal.

He compares it to a sled: you take a sled with 5 dogs pulling and it goes through the snow and makes its way through rough places. If one of those dogs cannot keep up or gets out of the way, you must let it go and the others continue sliding together, so the band must go on.

From its beginnings

The band was formed on January 15th, 2015. Some members already knew each other through the Rock movement in Camagüey. They all came from different projects and decide to unite them, creating a new one, that’s where the name Desbroce comes from.

This name is the beginning of all construction work according to the two architects of the band, that is desbroce, it is what removes the ground to erect a building from the foundations.

The founders are not all those who currently make up the group, but the 5 members have no leader, together they compose, arrange and give rise to each musical work.

Social vision

They have a social objective, because with their songs they tell a current story, which can happen to anyone, as diverse as the topic they dedicated to their colleague Mandy, who was murdered some time ago, to addressing arguments such as betrayal, love, bureaucracy, the harmful effects of drugs and many more.

Defining a musical style of the band, he says that they do crossover, a mixture of everything, it is a very eclectic style. We use a lot the genres that each one likes, each one listens to different things. Some Nü metal, others Death Metal, others more Trash. That is why they combine elements of each style. They just need to create a ballad to have everything in their repertoire.

Humberto

This young architect, belongs to the projects department of the Historian’s Office, unites his two passions in life: urban planning and within it projecting works as ambitious as the one that encompasses the remodeling of Independencia Street, a proposal that was put on hold due to COVID-19 and to relax work tensions there is his second girlfriend; The music he makes since Desbroce.

When asked how he is doing, he says that he feels very good, he also has a girlfriend, a family and everything that a young man like him can dream of since a young age.

Referents

The group Rhodas will always be a paradigm for rock in Camagüey, he could not see them play live because he was a little kid, but other musicians of the band remember them as the pioneers of the genre, who opened the way to make that music and spread to the public in Camagüey and our country. It is among the distinguished bands of Cuba, it was the first to professionalize and found the Sounds of the City festival.

Event organized by the Hermanos Saiz Association, which Desbroce and other local bands enjoy and find a chance to meet. The 15th edition has just been held to show that rock in Camagüey has not lost its adolescent and young audience, nor the energy and nonconformity of musicians and promoters, to defend that cultural expression.

Humberto, the young architect, is delgado like his last name, traditionally dressed and with long braids, he transforms on stage with comfortable clothes to move lightly, while he makes the bass speak and gives us his chords with feelings.
