180 years ago, on the morning of December 23rd, that child who became El Mayor for the people of Camagüey was born. To commemorate the occasion, the magazine Senderos Number 24 was released in a digital version.

The meeting was attended by more than the expected people, the side room of the Santa Cecilia Convention Center, was too small to accommodate so many city dwellers with a desire to honor Ignacio Agramonte.

The Magazine

The magazine’s main editor, Professor Manuel Montejo, proudly reviewed the enthusiasm of El Lugareño publishing house team for completing the issue dedicated to Agramonte, although they did not abandon the desire to see it printed on paper.

Number 23, dedicated to the historian Elda Cento, was also presented in a digital format on the 18th and both are already posted on the official website of the OHCC.

The presentation

According to historian Fernando Crespo Baró, Agramontino par excellence, the magazine invites you to follow the short and intense life of this beloved patriot from Camagüey, through many views, those of the various authors of the articles it contains.

From its cover, with a painting by the artist Joel Jover, Ignacio’s gaze transmits the many values ​​that he bequeathed to us. Other sections dedicated to music, audiovisuals and unpublished photos from the personal archive of his daughter Herminia, were some of the annotations with which Crespo invites the reader to approach this leading figure in the country’s history.

Gold stitches

The idyllic love of Agramonte for his eternal Amalia, was the last topic, because only for love, a man of such nobility could put his commitment to the country before his beloved woman and family, to give everything for the libertarian cause.

Wise people say that luminous men like Agramonte are born every 100 years, today when we commemorate the 180th anniversary of his birth, we hope that in about 20 years another man from Camagüey will arrive with that light, who with his actions or words, defends his land with brilliance and the courage with which El Mayor commanded his cavalry in the redemptive battlefield: for a Free Cuba.
