April dresses in awards to continue betting on the preservation of a heritage that makes us faithful guardians of the memories that distinguish us.

For the Office of the Historian of Camagüey city, the International Day of Historic Sites and Monuments in 2022 will be unforgettable. From very early on, the provincial awards were given in the category of Restoration and Conservation of Monuments. The first, for the execution of the restoration project for the work of the Railway Museum and the second for the quality of the conservation project for the headquarters of the Office of the Historian.

While at the Atarés Castle, José Rodríguez Barreras, director of the Historian’s Office, was awarded the National Prize for the Conservation and Restoration of Monuments awarded by the National Council for Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture.

Not only was the Museum where you fall in love with the history of the railway recognized with this award, it was also given four important collateral distinctions that were awarded by: the Union of Architects and Construction Engineers of Cuba, the Cuban Committee of the International Council of Historic Sites and Monuments, the Cuban Committee for the Conservation of Industrial Heritage and the Presidency of Museums of the National Heritage Council.

The Railway Museum is the only one of its kind in the country and is dedicated to safeguarding the region’s railway heritage from its founding in the 19th century to the present. In it, all types of public can find historical attractions at the hands of the technology that accompanies the exciting journey.

In words of gratitude to all the people of Camagüey and those who dedicated themselves body and soul to the important work of rescuing the memory of the railway in the province, the director of the Office of the Historian in Camagüey, José Rodríguez Barreras published on his Facebook: “With all the love in the world for my city and its people. For my colleagues, for those who, in difficult conditions, trusted in the cause we defend. For the authorities of the province and the municipality, infinite thanks. Congratulations to the Cuban railway workers, especially those from Camagüey. At a time like this I think of that person who dedicated 36 years of his life to the railroad, my father. ”
