The Héroes del Moncada school is a center that overflows with feelings in each of its classrooms. There, more than 20 children with Autism Spectrum Disorders receive classes and learn to integrate into society.
The center was created in 2016 and very shortly afterwards a group of parents sent a letter to the Historian’s Office to support the work carried out there.
The help went beyond what could be expected, it not only focused on improving the conditions of the property located in the fragment of the historic center declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, but also non-compliant, from the institution and as a whole with the Provincial Directorate of Education, the project “Support for the comprehensive development of boys and girls with Autism Spectrum disorder, belonging to the Héroes del Moncada school in Camagüey” was created, which had the financial support of the Embassy of Japan in Cuba , the NGO Camaquito and the Office of the Historian itself.
This project officially ended on Monday with the presence of the Japanese ambassador to Cuba, His Excellency Hirata Kenji, Mark Kuster, founder of the NGO Camaquito, the provincial deputy director of Education, Clay Pérez Jiménez and José Rodríguez Barreras, director of the Historian’s Office.
“Our country is a friend of Cuba and we want to show our friendship to the Cuban people. I am pleasantly surprised that the Cuban people, families and authorities work together for the good of these children. “His Excellency Hirata Kenji commented.
For his part, Mark Kuster, founder of Camaquito told the Communication group of the Office of the Historian: “I greatly admire the work of the staff of this school and that was the reason why Camaquito decided to support and offer their solidarity with this teaching center. ”
The director of the Office of the Historian, José Rodríguez Barreras, highlighted, “We try to sensitize everyone who could do something for this place and a relationship was established that lasts until today, between parents, children, Office workers, in the sense of achieving the requirements that a place like this needs to classify as a special school. Only five minutes would be enough to see how much love and profession are needed to work in a place with these characteristics and that says a lot about Cuban education. ”
After almost two years of implementation, this cooperation project endowed the study center with important resources for the full implementation of the educational activities that these children require. For this reason, both workers and parents did not miss the opportunity to thank those who have helped so much in the development of their children or students.
The work carried out in the Héroes del Moncada school, more than an abundance of sensitivity, is a lesson about inclusion, respect and admiration for those who, despite having special needs, fight for their goals and invite you to dream about them.
