As part of the activities for the Camaguey Culture Week, it is inserted in this online day; one of the 14 projects developed by Casa Carlos J. Finlay, a cultural institution belonging to the Office of the Historian of Camagüey city.
The project “Dream of a home” of the Carlos J. Finlay Birthplace, since 2016 brings together people interested in animal protection. It was created in order to provide guidance on the care of pets, mainly dogs and cats.
Taking into account that pets abandoned in the streets of the city constitute a hygienic problem due to zoonotic diseases, as well as developing awareness actions in Camagüey allow to minimize the abandonment of these animals that we have at home.
As Mahatma Gandhi said: ¨The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated¨
The main objectives of the project:
- Identify existing pet shelters or groups of people who take care of multiple animals in their homes.
– Collect funds, food and medicine, which will be delivered to the shelters, to contribute to the support and survival of the animals taken in.
– Help extreme cases of abandonment in the streets that are in critical conditions.
- Promote, taking advantage of all media, actions aimed at raising the level of awareness of our population about the protection and respect of animals in our territory.
– Distribution of messages of public good in feasible places.
– Influence the radius of action of the community, to encourage this culture of animal protection.
- Develop actions with children to instill respect for animal welfare from the earliest ages.
- Facilitate possible adoptions of animals, in conjunction with the animal rescue and protection groups of the province by inserting ourselves in their adoption fairs.
The members of the project meet at the institution itself on the second Thursday of each month at 3:00 pm, and the doors are open for all those interested in collaborating with the noble task of animal protection.
