With the presentation of the daguerreotype patent by Frenchman Louis Daguerre, on August 19th, 1839, one of the most momentous stories in the history of mankind begins: that of photography.

The art of capturing the soul of an instant, transmitting emotions, treasuring facts and telling stories; It became not only an important socio-communicative way, but also an artistic event in itself, which has been revolutionized and adapted to new technological scenarios and cultural contexts.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed daily dynamics and practices, requiring all family members to spend more time at home and a great amount of free time. Based on the current access to means that allow taking photographs, with greater or lesser quality, the widespread consumption of social networks and virtual platforms; as well as new alternatives of socialization and leisure, photography is today one of the most popular hobbies or one of the most interesting ways from which to interpret and express individual reality.

This expo arises precisely in tune with the previous ideas: the sharp and personal look of the immediate environment through the lens. An environment that has not only been closer than ever in these times, being analyzed, evaluated and reconfigured from other perspectives; but of the one that has had the need of evasion and escape. Photography has therefore also been an effective means, to open breaches to boredom and free the creative spirit.

Dedicated to the International Day of photography, art and communication in times of pandemic, it is this exhibition “Look again.” Not only consecrated professionals of the lens participated in it, but also amateurs, with a very particular sensitivity. More than 100 proposals were received and analyzed to make up this sample. Camagüey and Havana were the most represented territories, but not the only ones; evidencing the scope and reception of this call.

Special thanks to Gustavo Linares Parrado for helping us, once again, in the selection of the images; whose vision provided us with the technical and aesthetic reasoning necessary to shape the exhibition; without straying from his essential goals. Also thank to all those who answered to our call and trusted in our goals.

Unless otherwise specified, the authors are from Camagüey province

The virtual exhibition “Look again” is then available to all of you…
