Eusebio Leal Spengler is elected as a Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences

The appointment of the historian of the Havana City as a Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences responds to the mandate given to this honorary association since its founding in 1780: “to cultivate the arts and sciences that may increase interest, the honor, dignity and happiness of free, independent and virtuous people. ”
In the inaugural years, this Academy of the United States was integrated by personalities such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton.

The institution is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts and consists of more than 4000 members of the United States and more than 600 external honorary members, including Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Nelson Mandela, Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa and British anthropologist Mary Douglas Leakey.

The membership of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences tries to represent thinkers and innovators from all over the world, notable for their contributions in very different professions and branches of knowledge. His studies privilege research and analysis in science and technology, global security and international affairs, social policy, education and humanities.
The new members elected to enter the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 2019, like the Cuban Eusebio Leal Spengler, should attend the initiation ceremony to be held next October in Massachusetts.
