The rehabilitation proposal for Independencia street includes intervention work in its first two sections, ranging from the intersection with Ignacio Agramonte street to Maceo Square – including the current Las Cubanitas cafeteria and the park adjacent to Coppelia.

This project will cause visible changes in the central street and in urban spaces such as Las Cubanitas Park. The transformations will range from floor treatment, to bring the entire axis and urban spaces to the same level; the incorporation of street furniture such as litter bins and lighting fixtures; until the construction of a new punch on the pavement for a green area, with its planter benches in the Coppelia park.

The intervention will be adapted to current times; hence its markedly inclusive character -use of QR codes- to show an air of modernity and renewal that embraces the use of new technologies without divorcing the historical heritage – built framed in the urban context. Advertising totems and an LED screen will be placed in Las Cubanitas Park.

Application of renewable energies in the project

The use of renewable energy is essential to develop a similar project in the current circumstances. Light is an environmental factor influencing people’s quality of life and performance. For this reason, it is necessary to create and implement technologies that help maintain healthy environments, in terms of lighting.

If we add to this the large amount of electrical energy that is wasted due to bad consumption habits and the use of outdated and inefficient devices, the importance of implementing the use of new technologies such as the use of LEDs is evident.

LED technology provides powerful lighting without the need to mix chemicals like halogens or a large amount of heat like incandescents. LED light can be used in many ways, and be applied the same in public spaces such as streets and squares, as well as in more closed places such as classrooms or offices.

For the lighting project of Independencia Street, different types of lamps were chosen: suburban, garden, reflectors and neon LED strips, which will allow a staging and a night environment that will enhance the values of the street.

It is at this point where the use of renewable energies comes in, since the implementation of solar panels and photovoltaic cells in strategic places that receive a large amount of sunlight, such as the roof of the building that Coppelia occupies, will make the project not only self-sustaining in energy matter; but that it has a friendly character towards the environment, for creating and promoting the rational and adequate use of energy.

Las Cubanitas Park

In this area there will be different types of LED lighting. We will have three double floor lamps with a height of 5 meters, which will be located in the same place where the gooseneck streetlights are today.

The proposed lamp will be the SY-LD120W Solar Street Light, which has a solar cell on the back that will increase energy savings, since it does not require additional wiring, it will consume stored energy during the day and turn on automatically at night through a sensor.

The solar streetlight also has a remote control to increase or decrease the light emission. With features for 30,000 hours of life, it is resistant to rain, dust and sun, as it has resistant materials designed for greater durability.

In the planter benches, a LED strip will be incorporated along its entire inner edge a LE-M91-60RGB, ideal for indirect decoration in any space. It also has IP65 protection that makes it resistant to dust and water; Therefore, this product is ideal for placement outdoors -trees, facades or walls, adaptable to any type of climate and has a power supply.

Three reflectors with solar panels will also be added inside the planters, to create a more diaphanous environment in the vegetation and pointing directly at the trees: one in each planter. The reflectors work without electricity; and its light, brightness and on time can be adjustable by remote control.

Used mostly for outdoors, they are designed to resist dust, rain and sun, as they have resistant materials that allow them greater durability.

Public lighting

Throughout Independencia we will incorporate public lighting that will allow adequate lighting levels for the entire street. Luminaires attached to the wall with extended arm are proposed; many of them in the same place where the wall-mounted gooseneck luminaires are currently located and others in places that we consider should have lighting.

With a total of 15 luminaires attached to the wall at a height that ranges between 4 and 5 meters, depending on the condition of the façade, the proposed lamp is the Suburbana LE-SS09021-3 150w LED, which has a high quality and it is bright.

Usually used outdoors such as patios, fields, gardens, parking lots, squares, fences and streets, they are ideal for heights of 4 to 8 meters. They are resistant to dust, rain and sunlight, and use a cable connection. They are the ideal lamps for this type of space, as they have materials resistant to oxidation that allow for greater durability.
