Journalism, city and hope

I could not be faithful to my principles as a journalist’s apprentice without remembering one of the men I admire the most for his pen and fairness; values that every professional of the word must carry as a shield.

It was in 1892 that the first issue of the newspaper Patria, created by Martí, came to light. This newspaper became a spokesman for the Necessary War and also evidenced the highest expression of his fruitful journalistic work. Since 1992, in Cuba, this date was instituted to honor all professionals like Martí; they travel the complex path of carrying information as a weapon of a necessary truth.

On a summit erected on three pillars there are the restless and sensitive human beings who bet on this art that becomes science. They need to research to inform, contrast to guide and live to educate. Like Martí in the XXI century, they go beyond borders or difficulties, they find in the ordinary a truth that makes the hair on their necks raise , they share a history that makes one sigh; and they criticize with such faith that they manage to catch followers and not so adept at what they propose.

The spirit of each city that tells a story, with a sensual touch attracts men and women who try to draw the colors of a reality that must be captured like a snapshot. Camagüey is one of those cities full of enchantments that make us fall in love every dawn.

That is why every sound, word and image are dedicated to enhancing that story told by cobblestones, churches, squares and parks; waterpots and people who continue to convert time and memory, a reason to continue doing Journalism.

To all the professionals who do not stop at this work that becomes an addiction, to those who speak with their hearts, to those who are surprised by a new dawn in front of the challenging page, for whom there is no hour or moment when it comes to offering the necessary food that nourishes the soul: Congratulations.
