Life through their hands

Creation has always been the job of poets, painters or musicians. In this large group, the one who creates with his hands feelings so deep that they are eternalized in bronze, wood or any other material is often forgotten.

Who are we talking about? Of the craftsman, of that artist who emerges as unique and original as his own trade.

For all professions and phenomena there are World Days. The Craftsman’s is not exempt from celebration. For this reason, every March 19th we pay homage to that ancient manual trade that requires skill and creativity to create artistic pieces.

Why March 19th?

The date of celebration of this International Day coincides with the Day of Saint Joseph celebrated by the Catholic religion, who was a carpenter and craftsman by trade.

The talent, creativity and imagination of the artisans are hallmarks of the cultural heritage of the world and of Cuba.

We cannot talk about crafts without looking around us at each historical period that translates a production of it.

Currently, there are projects that focus on the use of the orange economy, to activate the heritage of high-value areas. We have one of them present in Camagüey.

Creative industries from Camagüey

The creative industries have become a modern and intelligent way of safeguarding values and taking advantage of local opportunities so as not to let what represents us die.

In our homeland, five high-value squares will translate the traditions we carry through artistic manifestations, including crafts.

The list of distinguished artisans who give us prestige with their works, forming an active part of the squares, parks and cultural institutions of the city, would be endless. It is fair to say that we appreciate your production and inspiration to continue making Camagüey a banner of culture not only in Cuba, but in the world.

Let’s never forget that being an artisan is creating art, through the use of all the senses; and that traditional crafts constitute the most tangible manifestation of intangible cultural heritage.
