Manuel Zábalo Rodríguez, Cuban revolutionary fighter, a native of Camagüey, better known as the “Combatant of the Three Sierras”. When the coup d’etat took place on March 10th, he is one of the first to oppose the revolt.
Due to the difficult situation that he already had in Camagüey, he went to Sierra Maestra, where he reached the ranks of Captain, he was ordered to move to Sierra del Escambray to collaborate with the guerrilla organizations, and then he must continue to Sierra de los Organs; in the province of Pinar del Río where a new guerrilla front opens.
He is betrayed and imprisoned by henchmen of the dictatorship who tortured him, gouging out his eyes and plucking out his nails, however and burn him from the waist down; however, they cannot get a single word from him.
His last words were: “Cowards, kill me already, so that you can see how the men of the July 26th Movement die.”
