Martha Jiménez is a woman with an artistic work recognized in various parts of the world.
A part of this work has been carried out in conjunction with the Office of the Historian of Camagüey city, but there is no doubt that her sculptures in the Carmen Square have become a distinctive symbol of this region.
“Since the first piece was placed, until the whole ensemble was finished, everything was well received. First the three gossips and the wedding couple were made. Later they suggested another piece and I created the newspaper reader and then José Rodríguez, the director of the Historian’s Office commissioned me to do the Portrait of Matao, a person who was well known in that place and that was one of the last pieces, the man with the stand.
I feel really happy that those sculptures in Carmen Square have become emblematic for the city and that people recognize me, not only in Cuba but in other countries, for being the author of that work.” – explained Martha.
This work is not her only collaboration with the Historian’s Office. In fact, right now one of his paintings is exhibited at the Fidelo Ponce de León gallery, as part of the collective exhibition City, Line of My Dreams, which was inaugurated to celebrate the 508th anniversary of the town of Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe.; and she is responsible for the realization of the sculpture of Nicolás Guillén who will soon pay homage to the National Poet of Cuba in his homeland.
“In all these years I have participated in magazine publications, in personal and collective exhibitions. In other words, whenever I could, I have contributed and collaborated with the Office.” – she added.
Martha Jiménez defines herself as a fanatic of the patrimonial values of the cities, that is why she confesses to feel great admiration for the work of the Office of the Historian of Camagüey city in these almost 25 years of creation. In addition, she is proud to have carried out, together with this institution, one of the most emblematic and distinctive works of Camagüey’s environmental sculpture, a work that can be considered, why not, the heritage of this city.
