It has been a long time since I spoke about COVID -19, its threatening presence never left us in 2020 and it seems that in 2021 it is lurking again.

Its close proximity made us continue working, with the concern of its possible increase and for almost a year, with the discomfort that the masks impose on us; but necessary to avoid contagion, especially in public places and especially in the city center, where the long lines and the lack of products also persist.

But we woke up in January, hoping for a Cuban vaccine that is already showing signs of progress and will be the solution to eliminate this deadly virus.

The Second Wave

You could already see it coming in the last days of December, with an increase in the number of cases and their presence in almost all the provinces. But suddenly, barely after a fortnight of work and Camagüey was placed on the red list, so to speak.

Since Saturday, January 16th, the limited local transmission phase has returned, with the closure of schools, restaurants and cultural institutions.

We return to the sad days of confinement, only that some of us must continue working and contributing to our battered economy, therefore, teleworking regains its leading role.

Three people’s councils in the city have limited mobility of people due to high numbers of infected people: Vigía- Florat, Edén – Bella Vista and Jayamá, all with the necessary medical surveillance.

It is necessary to become aware once again and comply with the necessary hygiene measures, which will help us to reduce the number of infected people while the vaccine arrives.

Resuming hand washing with chlorine, maintaining physical distancing and the use of masks permanently, are for now our weapons against this microscopic enemy, which kills hundreds of people in the world every day and that today threatens us in our own land; without distinctions.

Our Duty

Journalists from our lookout position, with a pen in hand, will continue to inform our people and encourage them with every piece of news. If there is one thing for sure, it is that this battle, like so many others for health: we will win it.
