The 8th Conference on Cultural Diversity is coming

The fifth month of the year begins and with it the proposal for an approach to our cultural roots, as well as the possibility of exchange about this subject.

From May 19 to 21, the eighth edition of the Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, an event sponsored by the Office of the Historian of Camagüey city through the House of Cultural Diversity, will direct its thematic axis to the presence and Spanish influence in the Camagüey and Cuban culture.

In the search for plurality and at the same time uniqueness of our strong cultural heritage, this event, since its creation, offers the space for the academic appearance on the diversity of legacies and concepts that solidify the Cuban identity, as well as becoming the stage to enjoy of local and national artistic talent.

Thematic of the Day

This eighth edition will analyze in a general way the diversity of Spanish cultural practices and the migratory processes towards Cuba, Caribbean and America.  Reference will be made to studies of “memory carriers”, socially recognized: elders, troubadours, town criers; that allow recognizing, conserve and promote the living patrimony of the nation (dances, music, culture, culinary, architecture, and repentismo, among others).

As well as research about the interactions of Spanish culture with the rest of the cultures of the world and a look at the multicultural contributions of Spanish legacies that have influenced and influence cultural expressions and other popular traditions.

The Conference will be developed in cultural institutions of the Historical Center of the city of Camagüey, Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The theoretical meeting: For a plural vision of our culture, will be developed at the Santa Cecilia Convention Center, of the Historian’s Office, from May 20 to 21, 2019.

Other activities will take place in the House of Cultural Diversity of Camagüey and in cultural institutions of the city.

Visiting us…

Among the personalities invited to the contest is the director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean and the Representative of Cuba, Aruba and the Dominican Republic at UNESCO, Katherine Muller Marín.

It is also expected the presence of a diplomatic representative of the Spanish Embassy in Cuba and as a sample of that Spanish influence in the art that is grown on the island we will have Reinier Mariño and his group.
