Various cultural projects occupy time and fill the joy of children in Camagüey. This World Children’s Day, while in other latitudes there are wars, epidemics or simply few honor the date, for the children of the City of Waterpots every year a great cultural festival fills their day.
This June 1st, the pandemic caused by the Sars Cov-2 virus keeps the little ones at home, so their celebration will be postponed, such as the school year and other activities, because if children have a right in Cuba, it is to health, now nothing is more important than protecting them so that they stay healthy.
OHCC and children
There are not a few projects that the Office of the Historian offers to children from its cultural management, although, among the various artistic manifestations: Harlequín, is the best known, there are also those of plastic arts in the gallery, that of Rumba and Punto Cubano in the Concert Hall and Heritage Classrooms, which offer knowledge of local history.
In their meetings, in addition to learning to appreciate the arts and the historical-heritage values of our beloved city, they play and have fun performing.
Stories about dance and music
Some time ago I met one of the dancing girls of Arlequín, (Dayanis) who grew up between the conga and the son and today continues her passion for dance in a group for young people, although she still misses her first performance before the public ; she is infinitely grateful for all that her beloved dance school has given her.
Another story is that of Jessica Pulido, an ex-dancer of the group, who was part of the cast from a very young age to 19 years old, currently continues to dance in a company in a Varadero resort and says that here are her first steps on that path , her gratitude is eternal to the teacher and the Office, who took her by the hand and marked her destiny.
Ignacio Acosta (Nacho) takes new steps by learning to play the guitar in the Rumba y Punto project, there are already several musical themes that he gifts us with his strings, among which he prefers “la calabaza” and “la caldosa”, but above all he longs to return to face-to-face classes in the Concert Hall, because he says that he shares with other children his age and has fun, while perfecting his skills with his instrument.
This sensitive child half-closed his little eyes and a special glow can be seen, to assure me that when they return to normal he will surprise us with a musical gift.
The Office of the Historian, with its artistic projects, fulfills the dreams of those who enjoy culture, while growing up appreciating the most beautiful of its traditions and history.
A Happy Day
Although the pandemic for now keeps them away from their artistic passion, games and school, those of us who have seen them dance, paint, dramatize a historical event or sing on any stage in Camagüey, we can say that the children of this land, like in the rest of the island, live a happy childhood, enjoy their rights and on a special day like this, they can paint their rainbow in the sky, with the beautiful colors of peace, hope and health.
