The San Juan Camagüeyano is one of the most genuine traditions of the land of the waterpots. Year after year from June 24th to 29th, the city becomes all music to the overwhelming rhythm of its congas and comparsas.
With the San Juan come a series of traditions: the reading of the proclamation, the parade float, the ajiaco, the burial of San Pedro, just to mention a few of them.
In this popular celebration, the posters that accompany these days have stood out for many years, either to announce the event in a general sense or the congas, floats and troupes that animate the festivities.
The poster that will identify San Juan is chosen through a contest launched by the Carnival Commission, with the aim of promoting the activity during that year and turning it into a great cultural event.
It should be noted that for many years screen printing predominated as a method of printing posters and that these in their content, link San Juan with the most important event that is happening in the territory at that time.
Camagüey is not only a great cultural plaza but it also hosts a great movement around graphic design; not for nothing it was one of the sub-sites of the last Design Biennial in 2019.
Every year San Juan becomes a great link of traditions, culture and heritage; And although this 2021 the situation forces us to cancel the festivities in the streets, it will be impossible to erase that spirit of San Juan that even from home we Camagüeyanos maintain.
