With the approach of the summer season the Office of the Historian of the City (OHCC) and the specialists of its institutions have prepared a special program that includes all possible members of the public. The real possibilities offered by our city to merge the entertainment with the knowledge of the history that is breathed among the streets and squares of the legendary villa that we travel is invaluable
The tours of the city, the summer workshops and the participation contests, as well as the excellent cultural animation in public spaces; they constitute the main course of the options prepared for the months of July and August. With a total of 11 routes (tours), 8 contests and 23 workshops, the Office of the Historian plans to turn this summer into a unique experience for those who wish to participate in their activities.
The routes are resolved both pedestrian, in downtown, as in transportation using the urban train, the panoramic bus and Diana buses. Both proposals will tour interesting and attractive places, such as the Casino Campestre, Potrero de Jimaguayú, the Camilo Cienfuegos Amusement Park and the Batey of the old Jaronú Central; as well as locations of the city’s cultural panorama, say El Guiñol de Camagüey, D ‘Luz Theater and the Camagüey Ballet.
For its part, the historic center with its legendary squares, churches and mysterious gaits will be the protagonist and is included in the visits. In addition, each of the tours include attractive dining options for your enjoyment.
The participation contests offer the possibility of participating as a family. Mental agility and knowledge about the cultural and social tasks of the city are required, as well as encouraging the conservation of Camagüey’s heritage. On the bases of suggestive proposals, summer competitions will be another of the alternatives in which city dwellers can participate and be rewarded for their effort.
The workshops for this summer season have increased their number in correlation with last year, characterized by innovative and instructive ideas. They will have varied themes such as photography, philately, animal protection, weaving, Tai Chi and martial arts, magic, how to improve your mental health, as well as others of communicational profile headed by the radio and chronicles workshops, television and Website. The artistic manifestations also have their space, workshops on piano, repentismo, danzón, choral music, plastic arts and the popular dance workshop taught by the Harlequin Artistic Group.
Concerning the activities of animation in cultural institutions and public spaces planned for these months, it is important to mention that each institution has designed a special program to draw and satisfy the demands of the public anxious for entertainment and healthy recreation. The program of summer activities will start on July 1st, where they also distinguish the activities for the 11th Anniversary of the Declaration of the Urban Historic Center as Cultural Heritage of Humanity and the celebration for the second anniversary of the José Marín Varona Concert Hall.
