Senderos, the magazine of the Office of the Historian of Camagüey city, edited and designed by the El Lugareño publishing house, is in its nineteenth anniversary. During these years it has delved into little known or diffused details of the events of the region and in particular of the city, and traveled, in each of its numbers, the same path that the Office has walked.

This publication, included in the National Registry of Serial Publications, emerged in 2003 to bring to light the results of the interventions carried out in the territory, the cultural development achieved through the institutions of the Office of the Historian and the studies on historical, cultural and architectural topics, as well as the investigations on the rescue of the patrimony, the legends, customs and values of the same, resulting from the push of the specialists of Project, Master Plan and Historical Investigations. It also discloses the vocation and imprint of figures from the historical, patriotic and cultural fields.

A little history

Consequently, the first period of the magazine was structured, in which the plastic artists of the province had a wide participation. This stage was characterized by presenting the visual arts as a specific cover design, five articles on various topics and a chronicle that remains to this day.

After 16 years, a new version of the magazine was projected, in which the range of topics and the universe of the writers were expanded. An article on culturology was included and intellectuals from institutions such as UNEAC (Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba), AHS (Association of Young Creators), UNHIC (National Union of Historians of Cuba), SCJM (José Martí Cultural Society), Camagüey University, the MINCULT, among others, to capture, from their work, the cultural framework of the city in the pages of Senderos.

It also changed the cover design, this time, to expose in addition to the visual arts, other content of historical, cultural, political and public good relevance.

Results to continue working

So far, 24 issues of the magazine have seen the light, which comes out every six months, although the last two, as a result of the country’s polygraphic limitations, are in digital format. Number 25 corresponding to the first half of this year is in the editing process and will be dedicated to the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the OHCC.

Senderos is, in itself, a documentary testimony of the work of the region. The Historian’s Office, its cultural institutions, El Lugareño publishing house, its specialists work for the preservation and transmission of the best cultural values. Treasure such a collection constitutes having a graphic memory that will gain increasing heritage value over a few decades.
