If you walk frequently through the Historic Center of Camagüey you have surely listened to Radio Príncipe, a radio project of the Office of the Historian that, through the speakers located in part of the historic center, broadcast to passers-by a list of programs designed with the purpose to enliven, educate and inform.

From 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. there are different objectives to which Radio Príncipe is directed, with two fundamental aspects: the production of programs that are broadcast by stations affiliated to the ICRT and provide an entertaining and educational programming for all those people who walk through the historic center of Camagüey.

We start at 9:00 a.m. broadcasting live the press conference of Dr. Francisco Durán. After this, our program Descubrimos immediately begins in which we inform listeners about local events through social media. Normally this program begins at 9:00 am, but due to the epidemiological situation in the country we have changed this schedule, Lizandra Góngora Cañizares, specialist of this radio project, commented to our website.

On Thursdays at 2:00 pm you could hear En la Calle where different organizations of the area, cultural institutions in general from every corner of the city; inform about the activities that will take place over the weekend. Due to the epidemiological situation facing the country, it is not being broadcast, but it will surely be resumed once sanitary conditions allow it.

But Radio Príncipe extends its airwaves beyond the historic center through the production of programs such as: Camino a Camagüey, a program broadcasted by Habana Radio, which goes on the air on Sundays from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Camino a Camagüey aired for the first time on the Office’s tenth anniversary, being the first program to be produced in a province that is broadcasted on the Habana Radio frequency.

Somos Patrimonio is also included among the programs that are produced, another one that is broadcasted on Radio Camagüey, the municipal broadcasting station, on Sundays from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

It invite us to take a look at the events of the city and the actions carried out by the Office of the Historian (OHCC), includes sections such as the most relevant ephemeris, OH Billboard that promotes the activities programmed by the Office itself for the week, a tour about the articles published by the website www.ohcamaguey.cu and of course, a few minutes dedicated to talk with the Director of the OHCC, José Rodríguez Barreras.

The music policy of Radio Príncipe, even though the project is not linked to the ICRT, follows the same principles of that entity. In general, we mostly play soft and Cuban music.

Radio Príncipe’s schedule in the historic center of the city includes a number of programs that disseminate and recall the historical, architectural and cultural value of Camagüey in ancient and contemporary times.

There are a diverse number of works that are broadcasted daily, such as the chronicles of Jesmir Varona Socias, broadcasted not only through the loudspeakers, but also by two programs that are produced and other ones with which we collaborate.

Every day Radio Príncipe broadcasts a group of public good campaigns so that people know the history and learn that it is necessary to preserve the historic center of Camagüey, a World Heritage Site; title that is not for life.

Therefore, if those values for which UNESCO granted us the status of World Heritage Site are lost, we put at risk not only our inclusion in the World Heritage List, but also defining features of our own identity. Taking care of this in order to contribute to safeguard the idiosyncrasy of Camagüey, are the objectives of projects such as Radio Príncipe, space committed to promote and enhance our heritage.
